Ceramic

Ceramic tile can be perceived as the entry level way to get in to a tile look and has been around for a very long time. Ceramic tile is very hearty and can be very durable, and at times can be very temper mental. Depending on how long it has been cured, and how it was cured can be a facture on how the tile performs.

Porcelain

Porcelain tile has two varieties, one a thru body porcelain, and two a heat treated porcelain. The first is a true porcelain tile which what ever design seen on the top of the piece is true throughout the tile. The second is simply the material is made of a porcelain refined product. The through body piece is the most popular because of the drop affect that sometimes happens in the kitchens especially if a can, bottle, or simply a sharp object that breaks through the top of the tile and chips sometimes a red, white, or beige background can be seen if it were not true color all the way through.

Travertine

travertine is also a stone product found with in the Earths surface. It is very porous unless it is sealed. Unlike other products though, once it is sealed no other application need to be done. Products like Granite and Marble have to be treated or sealed periodically and travertine is a one time seal and the material is very hearty. This product like marble can be very expensive as well, during the purchase of the product as well as in the installation.

Marble

Marble tile creates a very high luster look on a floor. Marble is a natural product found with in the Earth. It is a stone and can vary in color. This tends to happen and can make a floor look very appealing or could be seen an awkward. Marble is very expensive initially to purchase, and also can be somewhat temper-mental to maintain.

Sizes

Tiles vary in size from 1/2 matted materials up to 20 x 20 tiles. Depending on the size of the area or simply the area to be covered it is mainly up to the consumer on what is best. The floor in a shower stall can utilize any size above mentioned. The matted material goes faster on the install at times but in others when there are finite cuts involved it can become tricky. Though larger field tile can make a room appear smaller if the room is not very big to begin with. The sizes range from 1/2 matted materials, 4 x 4, 6 x 6, 12 x 12, 13 x 13, 16x 16, 18 x 18, 20 x 20. Some tile also can be purchased in random sizes as well.
